EXPERIENCE:

Senior Writer, OC METRO Business Magazine,  2007 - Present

Write, compile and edit print and Web content for a bi-weekly Orange County, CA business magazine with a reading distribution of 260,000.

  • Produce "Unplugged" lifestyles section, which includes health, fitness, travel, shopping, dining, automotive and technology.
  • Write breaking Web news stories, updated twice daily.
  • Research, write and edit six to seven articles per issue.
  • Work closely with managing editors, copy editors and coordinate with art direction and production departments.

Screenwriter, “Eye of Dawn – the Rise and Fall of Mata Hari”

  • Wrote feature-length and miniseries adaptations of an acclaimed biography of the executed WWI spy, Mata Hari, written by Erika Ostrovsky.

Novelist, Tomorrow’s Paradise – 1995-2005

Wrote, edited, polished 200,000 word historical fiction novel based on the colonization of southern California, opening in Reconstruction Era Tennessee.  During the development of this project, extensive research included:

  • Travel to East Tennessee, Washington, D.C., Virginia, South Carolina, Chicago and San Francisco. 
  • Interviewed experts: historians, Special Collections/reference librarians and technical experts.
  • Developed an in-depth knowledge of vast subject matter ranging from Antebellum slave and plantation culture, the Civil War, Abolition, Reconstruction, the genesis of the KKK, horticulture, citriculture, irrigation engineering and city planning. 

Freelance Writer, Various Clients (Intermittent, 1990-Present)

Provided professional writing services for a variety of clients including articles, technical, marketing, grant, copy and promotional materials.  Projects include:

  • More than 40 published magazine articles for periodicals including OC METRO Business, California Apparel News, Vein Magazine, OC Family, Inland Empire Family, Southern California Home & Outdoor, Body Beautiful and 951 magazines.
